BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores has selected SAP’s ERP Financials system, SAP, Walldorf, Germany, announced last week. Wal-Mart plans to implement the system globally in phases, with the first phase expected to be completed in 2010. This solution will replace some legacy systems while integrating with other internal Wal-Mart systems. SAP also announced yesterday that German-based Edeka-Group will implement SAP for Retail applications to ensure an integrated merchandise planning process, reduce IT operating costs and support an enterprise service-oriented architecture. “The consolidation of our IT infrastructure will allow us to cut costs by several hundred million euros,” said Alfons Frenk, chief executive officer of Edeka AG. “We will optimize the entire process chain within the group in order to operate in a more competitive and agile manner.”
