Most consumers want to live healthier lifestyles, but find it challenging due to their busy lifestyles, according to a new study commissioned by online organic grocer Door to Door Organics.
A strong majority (87%) of respondents said a healthy lifestyle is important to them, but 88% find it difficult to incorporate healthy eating into their daily routines, according to the survey of 1,100 U.S. online grocery shoppers.
Two-thirds of respondents said lack of time prevents them from cooking healthy meals for themselves and/or their families on a regular basis. Nearly half of respondents (48%) described their day as either “very busy” or “extremely busy."
They said they spend about 66 minutes a week grocery shopping and 52 minutes a day preparing meals for themselves and their families. Nearly half (47%) get only six hours or less of sleep each night.
Door to Door Organics CEO Chad Arnold said results show that consumers mistakenly think preparing a healthy meal is more time-consuming than it actually is.
“Many people feel that shopping for and cooking healthy meals requires hours of prep work and extra trips to the grocery store, which doesn’t have to be the case,” Arnold said in a statement. “There are numerous simple, healthy recipes and meal planning options available – we just need to connect consumers with those resources so it’s easier for them to quickly get what they need to prepare a healthy, fresh meal.”
