What’s the best part of your job?
Over the years, Giant Eagle has given me many opportunities and challenges. It has been up to me to do something with them. Influential mentors have taught me that leadership is much more than being the expert, or the achiever—it’s more about being “great” as a contributor, about transforming oneself and others and ultimately the organization. At Giant Eagle, I have been able to integrate aspects of what is important to me personally and to the community, which has allowed me to find purpose and true joy in work, which is the real best part and a gift.
What inspires your leadership approach?
My leadership approach is one of influencer, orchestrator, champion and catalyst. It all started with a work ethic my dad epitomized. It was about tenacity, working hard, getting up in the morning with this will to win the day. I grew up with that competitive spirit, knowing that work was a part of life, just like playing and resting. As an introvert, it’s that exact competitive spirit that’s helped me compete in a world full of extroverts.
What do you cherish most about being a part of the grocery business?
I treasure the fun stuff that has been part of learning the grocery business. Traveling to industry shows, manufacturing plants, farms and events around the world looking for delicious food, inspiration and trends is icing because it’s always about the people. From the team members I work with and the customers I serve to the suppliers, business partners and industry friends that support our company and the industry, it’s always about the people.
Favorite Food: Ice cream and pancakes.
