ShopRite Names Unit President

annix has been appointed president of ShopRite Supermarkets (SRS), the corporate-store subsidiary of Wakefern Food Corp. here.

SRS owns and operates seven stores in New York and New Jersey.

Mannix replaces Ken Capano, who served as president for six years and now owns the ShopRite of Norwich, Conn.

Mannix joined SRS in 1995 as executive vice president. Prior to that, he was with Wakefern, where he held various positions over 18 years, including vice president of bakery and meats.

Capano was formerly senior vice president of marketing at Wakefern, the retailer-owned cooperative and merchandising arm of SRS. He assumed control of the Connecticut store in October.

Eagle Names Real Estate VP

MILAN, Ill. -- Larry Sanford has been named vice president of real estate and store development for Eagle Food Centers here.

He will be responsible for finding new store sites and addressing excess property issues. Eagle had outsourced those duties for several years. Sanford formerly served as director of real estate and store planning at Drug Emporium, Columbus, Ohio.

Sanford will report to Herb T. Dotterer, senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Buttrey Taps Regional Director

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- Perry W. McNeese has been named regional director of Buttrey Food and Drug Stores here.

In the new position, he will be responsible for the sales, customer service and profitability of Region 5's seven stores in Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyo. McNeese, who has 28 years of food retailing experience, joins Buttrey from Supervalu, Minneapolis, where he was area marketing director and director of corporate stores for the wholesaler's Ryans division, Billings, Mont.

McNeese will report to Louis J. Rizzo, senior vice president of operations and store development.

Dillon Names Marketing VP

HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- Stan Stephens has been appointed vice president of marketing for Dillon Stores here.

Stephens is scheduled to assume the post at the beginning of next year. Dillon Stores is a division of Dillon Cos. here, which is a subsidiary of Cincinnati-based Kroger Co.

He replaces Jon Flora, who was recently named vice president of marketing at the headquarters of Kroger's Dallas marketing area.

Stephens joins Dillon from a sister division, City Markets, Grand Junction, Colo., where he was vice president of marketing. He formerly was director of deli/bakery and district manager of Kroger's Louisville marketing areas, and also has held various marketing positions in the deli/bakery and produce/floral departments of Kroger's Atlanta and Nashville divisions.

NGA Selects New PR Chief

RESTON, Va. -- The National Grocers Association here has named John Thompson as its public relations director.

Thompson also will serve as editor of the NGA's magazine, National Grocer. He formerly was managing editor of National-American Wholesale Grocers' Association/International Foodservice Distributors Association's publications for 10 years. He previously has served as editor and chief editorial writer for the Daily News of the Virgin Islands.
