ECR Group Names Co-Chairman

ndy Westlund, vice president for distribution at Hannaford Bros. here, has been named co-chairman of the Operating Committee for the Joint Industry Project on Efficient Consumer Response.

Westlund succeeds Gary Capshaw, vice president of logistics at Fleming Cos., Oklahoma City, who served as co-chairman for the past two years. Capshaw remains a member of the ECR Operating Committee.

Mike Maurer, director of industry affairs at Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, continues as the co-chairman representing grocery industry suppliers.

"I believe the ECR process can do as much or more in the next two to three years as it has done over the past five," said Westlund in a statement. "Companies are beginning to see tangible benefits to key ECR initiatives in category management, continuous replenishment, activity-based management and electronic data interchange. Through ECR we will continue to improve the value of products and services delivered to consumers."

New VP Positions Added by Supervalu

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here has announced a string of executive appointments.

Kim Erickson is assuming the new position of senior vice president of strategic planning and treasurer. Erickson was most recently senior vice president of finance.

Erickson joined the company in 1995 as vice president and treasurer. In her new position, she reports to Pamela Knous, executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Sherry Smith and Janel Haugarth also take on new positions at the company. Smith becomes corporate vice president and controller, while Haugarth becomes corporate vice president and controller for wholesale. Both report to Knous.

Both Smith and Haugarth had been assistant controllers.

In another move, Bill Shaner was named president of the company's Central region, a position formerly held by Joel Raffenbeul, who retired in May.

Shaner has been chief operating officer of Laneco, Supervalu's 19-store retail food group in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, since 1995. He now has responsibility for the region that includes the Fort Wayne, Ind.; Greenville, Ky.; and Ohio Valley divisions. He reports to Jeff Noddle, executive vice president and president and chief operating officer of wholesale food companies.

Fleming Group President Retires

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Les Dalecio, operating group president of the Kansas City, Sikeston, Peoria, Lincoln and Laurens divisions of Fleming Cos. here, has retired.

Dalecio was with Fleming for nearly 18 years, and has been a part of the industry since 1956. In 1980 he joined United Grocers. In 1983 he became vice president of retail operations and in 1984, after the acquisition of United Grocers by Fleming, he was named vice president and director of retail services and development for the Western region and Fleming Foods West. After working as division and group president of the Fresno, Milpitas and San Francisco Bay divisions and group president of the conventional voluntary segment, Dalecio was named operating group president in 1986.

The Kansas City, Sikeston, Peoria, Lincoln and Laurens divisions are reporting to Steve Davis, executive vice president of food distribution, until a new operating group president is named.
