ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc., which operates 31 ShopRite stores in New York and New Jersey, including recently opened locations in Niskayuna and Albany, N.Y., today announced its first gas station and convenience store location in the Capital Region, located at 651 Central Avenue in Albany, N.Y. The gas station and convenience store will be operated by ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. (SRS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Wakefern Food Corp., the largest supermarket cooperative in the United States. Scheduled to open in September, the former Mobil station will undergo a comprehensive facility upgrade. Upon completion, the facility will consist of 16 fueling positions and offer Regular, Plus, Premium and Diesel Fuels in addition to the newly refurbished convenience store. ShopRite will offer a discount for its Price Plus Club card holders on all grades of fuel, which will be announced closer to the station’s opening. “This gas station and convenience store will create another way for ShopRite to extend its value to customers throughout the Capital Region,” says Tom Urtz, vice president of human resources and community affairs for SRS. “We are happy to provide our customers with even more ways to save money in addition to the great savings they already receive while shopping in our stores.” Mayor Gerald D. Jennings stated, “As the Central Avenue corridor continues to evolve, the presence of ShopRite Supermarkets has been both welcome and significant.  Now, with the acquisition of the gas station just down the street from the market, the ShopRite brand will be further strengthened in the City of Albany.  Congratulations to all!”
