BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here announced yesterday it will release the rock band Kiss’ first new CD album in 11 years.
The CD set “Sonic Boom” will be sold in the U.S. and Canada exclusively at Wal-Mart, Walmart.com and Sam’s Club locations beginning Oct. 6. The three-disc set, which features a completely re-recorded greatest hits CD as well as a live DVD shot in Argentina during the band’s recent Kiss Alive 35 South American tour, will retail for $12.
The set can be preordered beginning in September at Walmart.com. Wal-Mart, one of the country’s largest music retailers, said it is finalizing plans for in-store and online Kiss destinations surrounding the launch of the new album and Kiss tour. It also plans to merchandise various Kiss products in addition to the band’s music in its stores this fall.
Kiss joins the Eagles, Guns N’ Roses, and AC/DC in striking similar exclusive deals with Wal-Mart.
