ISLEIN, N.J. — Foodtown said Wednesday that a Bronx store owner, Bernabe Cabrera, has joined the marketing cooperative and would convert his store to the Foodtown brand next month. Cabrera currently operates the store under the Met Food banner at 4332 White Plains Rd.
"We are ecstatic that Bernabe is joining Foodtown," Bill Donahoe, president and chief operating officer of Foodtown said in a statement. "It is a pleasure to be able to have someone of his caliber, and a long time highly respected individual join our cooperative. It helps solidify why we made the decision back in August to change our primary supplier and deliver on our growth commitment."
The store will be Foodtown's seventh location in the Bronx. Foodtown switched primary suppliers late last year from White Rose — the supplier for Met stores — to C&S Wholesale Grocers.
Foodtown is a cooperative of 68 independently owned and operated stores in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
