Rogers Joins Safeway Board

Safeway has named T. Gary Rogers, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, to its board of directors.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here said it has named T. Gary Rogers, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, to its board of directors. Safeway's board will expand to 10 members with this new appointment.

"Gary's vast experience as a supplier to the grocery industry, his business acumen and experience as a director will be great assets to the board," said Steve Burd, Safeway's chairman, president and CEO.

Rogers had led Dreyer's from 1977 until his retirement in 2007 after the company was sold to Nestle. He also is the former chairman of jeans maker Levi Strauss & Co., and has served on several other food-company boards, including Stanislaus Food Products, Foster Farms, The Wine Group, Il Fornaio and Marathon Meat.
