PLEASANTON, Calif. — For a limited time, Safeway will donate 10% of sales of participating items to local schools.

More than 2,000 participating items in the “10% Goes Back to Schools” promotion are identified with yellow school bug shelf tags. They include Kraft Mac N Cheese, Lipton Rice and Noodles, Knorr side dishes and Safeway pasta sauce.

Participating items must be purchased with store loyalty cards by Jan. 25. Earning totals are updated on receipts after each shopping trip, along with a redemption code. Participants can then visit www.backtoschools.escrip.com, select a participating local school and enter the redemption code shown on the bottom of their receipts. They can also give their receipt to a local school for redemption.

Schools must register at backtoschools.escrip.com to participate. Individual programs within a school, such as a high school band, also can sign up. All codes must be redeemed by Feb. 28.

In the last five years, the program has donated $17 million to local schools.
