ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A new Wegmans-brand ice cream flavor has been named for the Rochester Red Wings minor league baseball team’s mascot.

Called “Spikes Play Ball,” the creamy vanilla with strawberry and blueberry swirls and candy stars ice cream will be sampled at Frontier Field after Red Wings games and sold in Rochester-area Wegmans stores throughout the baseball season. A 48-ounce package feature the Red Wings logo with mascot, Spikes, and team colors of red, yellow and black. It retails for $2.38.

“It’s a fun way to cheer for our hometown baseball team,” said Mike DeCory, vice president of Wegmans brand, in a statement. “We’ve used only the best to meet Spikes’ demands: fresh milk and cream sourced locally, and premium ingredients.”
