PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway is using a unique form of sampling to promote its new Eating Right brand: For a limited time, online grocery shoppers get a free Eating Right frozen entree. The entrees typically sell for $2 each. The offer comes at a time when Safeway is heavily promoting the new 150-item better-for-you line with a Web link that includes frequently asked questions about the brand, and a $1 off coupon that can be used on any Eating Right product. Eating Right is designed to help people identify foods that have various dietary benefits. Packaging contains color-coded circles that identify if a food is high in fiber, low in fat, whole grain and more. Along with frozen entrees, selections include cereal, soups, snacks, juices, canned goods, salad dressings and fresh bagged salads.
