YONKERS, N.Y. -- Consumer Reports here picked some fast-food giants for praise and less than praise.

from the 10 major chains, while McDonald's Chicken McNuggets were deemed the most disappointing in taste.

Mashed potatoes with gravy from KFC and Popeye's contained the least fat, according to the magazine's labs, and McDonald's French Fries and Boston Market's mashed homestyle potatoes and gravy were judged the tastiest in the potato category.

The 10 major chains -- McDonald's, Subway, Wendy's, Jack in the Box, Burger King, Boston Market, Hardee's, Arby's, KFC and Popeye's -- were rated by the magazine in its December issue.

In Consumer Reports' flavor and texture evaluation, none of the sandwiches, boneless chicken pieces, chicken entrees, burgers, mashed potatoes with gravy and fries were judged "excellent."

Only Popeye's chicken tenderloins, Popeye's Louisiana Mild fried chicken, Wendy's Big Bacon Classic, McDonald's fries and Boston Market's mashed potatoes with gravy were deemed "very good." The remainder of the items were called "good" or "fair."
