Whole Foods Market will open its first smaller-format store, Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, on Wednesday. The 9,101-square-foot store is located at 1175 Third Avenue, in New York City’s Lenox Hill neighborhood in the Upper East Side.

The grocer is also announcing plans to open another Whole Foods Market Daily Shop location at 409 E 14th Street, in the East Village’s StuyTown development. This is the third New York City location confirmed by Whole Foods Market, following the recently announced Hell’s Kitchen location. Additional New York City locations and a national rollout will follow, the company said.

The convenience-store-like format “is designed to bring the freshest, high-quality ingredients to customers with a convenience that fits their fast-paced urban lifestyles,” the company said.

Announced in March 2024, Whole Foods Market Daily Shop will provide a convenient option for grab-and-go meals and snacks, weekly essentials and a quick, easy destination to pick up ingredients to complete a meal – with all items meeting the company’s rigorous quality standards. The innovative, smaller format stores will range between 7,000 to 14,000 square feet, or about a quarter to half the footprint of an average 40,000 square foot store.

Features and product assortment of the Lenox Hill location include:

  • More than 400 local products, from more than 100 northeastern suppliers including New York-based Family Farmstead Dairy, The White Moustache, Annie’s Ginger Elixir, Dam Good English Muffins and Mill Hollow Maple Syrup.

  • New local brands launching at the Lenox Hill location include Jack & Friends, P-Nuff Crunch and Mimi Cheng’s. TALEA Beer Co. is introducing its Lenox Hill Pilsner, which will only be available at the Lenox Hill location.

  • The first Juice & Java venue in New York City, offering coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, sandwiches, soups and desserts.

  • The launch of new ready to heat sous vide entrees & sides from the Whole Foods Market Kitchens brand.

  • Single-serve hot bowls and meals including Teriyaki Salmon, Falafel Tahini and Chipotle Chicken grain and protein bowls.

  • A selection of fresh, seasonal produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods like sandwiches and pre-packed meals, breads, alcohol and supplements, as well as a handpicked range of local specialties and the 365 by Whole Foods Market brand.

The first 300 customers in line on opening morning will receive a limited-edition tote bag, complimentary cold brew coffee from Nguyen Coffee Supply and muffins from Abe’s.

As part of its ongoing commitment to support local communities, Whole Foods Market is contributing in-kind product to The Bowery Mission, City Harvest and Gotham Food Pantry. The three organizations will also pick up excess food from the Lenox Hill location as part of Whole Foods Market’s Grocery Rescue Program and The Bowery Mission and City Harvest are Nourishing our Neighborhoods van partners.

Founded in 1980, Austin, Texas-based natural and organic foods retailer Whole Foods Market is part of Seattle-based Amazon’s grocery-store network and serves customers in more than 530 stores across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
