Key Food Stores Co-operative this week will hold grand opening ceremonies for a Food Emporium store opening in Garwood, N.J.
The store is the first Food Emporium to open in New Jersey since the brand was acquired by Key Food.
Staten Island, N.Y.-based Key Food acquired the Manhattan-based brand — and the site for the store, a former Pathmark location at 10 South Ave. in Garwood — as part of A&P's bankruptcy proceedings.
At 50,000 square feet, this new The Food Emporium will have 5,000 square feet dedicated to fresh produce offerings, including all natural and organic items from local New Jersey farms. The seafood department includes an oyster bar, and the full-service meat department offers customers an onsite butcher to cut meat to order. The deli department has a full line of Boar's Head cold cuts, as well as prepared foods including a hibachi table in the store.

This location also offers catering services, specialty floral, bakery and cheese departments and a cafeteria with a fresh squeezed juice bar, as well as coffee, tea, cappuccino and espresso, the company said.
“We’re here to serve the community,” said store owner Kevin Kim. “From creating new jobs and offering the best customer service, to offering the highest quality of food at the lowest prices, our goal is to bring customers an all-around fantastic shopping experience.”
Local officials and Key Food executives are expected to attend an opening ceremony Friday at 11 a.m.
