H-E-B sets opening date for Georgetown, Texas, supermarket
The 121,000-square-foot store at Wolf Lakes Village replaces an existing location nearby and is slated to open on June 7.
Texas grocer H-E-B plans to open its new Georgetown supermarket on June 7, the retailer announced this week.
The 121,000-square-foot store, about 25 miles north of Austin, replaces a 67,000-square-foot H-E-B less than a mile away that had been open since 1989. It will have an expanded product selection, more services and features, H-E-B said.
The new Wolf Lakes Village H-E-B will also include the second True Texas BBQ restaurant in Central Texas, the grocer said.
H-E-B opened its fist store in Georgetown, a 21,000-square-foot market, in 1966.
“We are thrilled to bring a new H-E-B store to Georgetown, a growing community we’ve proudly been a part of for more than 55 years,” Cathy Harm, H-E-B’s group VP for Central Texas, said in a statement. “We look forward to serving this community with a larger store that offers a wide assortment of products and services and ensuring that our long-time customers continue to enjoy the best of what H-E-B has to offer.”
The grocer said the new store will “have the feel of a European village,” corresponding to the aesthetic of the surrounding neighborhood with two entry towers and pedestrian-friendly surroundings.
In addition to the restaurant, which has indoor seating on both levels, the Georgetown H-E-B will include a pharmacy with two-lane drive-thru, full-service bakery with tortilleria, expanded Healthy Living department, large deli and wine/beer departments, sushi made in store, an outdoor entertaining area, a fuel station with car wash and more.
All employees at the soon-to-be-replaced Georgetown H-E-B have the option of transferring to the new store, the grocer said. About 100 new workers will be hired for the location, for a total of 450.
H-E-B announced about a year ago that it was starting construction on the Wolf Lakes Village store.
H-E-B is the largest private employer in Texas and currently operates more than 430 stores in Texas and Mexico.
The fast-growing grocer opened more new grocery square footage in 2022 than any other food retailer, adding 1.2 million square feet, according to a report from commercial real estate and property investment firm Jones Lang LaSalle.
