Lidl will open its first store in the Bronx, New York
The retailer is adding on to its recent New York development plans
It appears Lidl is planning to open a store in The Bronx neighborhood of New York after multiple recent expansion announcements into the state, reports local news outlet Welcome2TheBronx.
When the first New York City location opened on Staten Island in 2018, it was not accessible to most New Yorkers. Eventually, locations opened in Astoria and Harlem, but until now, none in The Bronx.
There is currently no set date for the grand opening, according to the article.
Lidl did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication of this story.
In May, the European discount supermarket announced the opening of a second grocery store in Manhattan (it first opened a store in Harlem in February 2022). MAG Partners and Lidl U.S. signed a lease for an approximately 23,000-square-foot ground-floor grocery store, expected to open in early 2026.
In July, Lidl also announced plans for a 29,208-square-foot supermarket that will combine smaller stores within an existing shopping center in Yonkers. At the time, a Lidl spokesperson said that it was too early to offer specific timelines for an opening date.
