Publix Super Markets has announced the opening date of its long-awaited store opening in Louisville, Kentucky.

Lakeland, Florida-based Publix said its new store at 2500 Terra Crossing Blvd., in Louisville's Terra Crossing Shopping Center, is scheduled to open on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 7 a.m. The 55,701-square-foot supermarket marks Publix’s expansion into its eighth state.

The new store will “welcome customers and continue passing on the Publix experience at its grand opening,” Publix stated.

“Moving into Kentucky is a natural progression for our company, and we are excited to serve and be a part of this vibrant community,” Todd Jones, CEO of Publix, said in an earlier statement announcing the grocer’s entry into a new state.

The employee-owned retailer has other locations under way in Kentucky, and to kick off expansion into the state launched the Hello, Kentucky website  in July for those interested in staying up to date with the details of the Louisville store.

“This site is a one stop shop for Kentuckians to get to know who we are as a company, what we will be doing in the community and, of course, prepare for the ultimate Publix Super Market,” Publix said.

The website also features a video introduction and a place for those interested to sign up for the latest grand opening specials, products and other details.

Thus far, Publix has disclosed plans for six stores in Kentucky. Besides the Terra Crossing locations, those sites include another two stores in Louisville, two in Lexington and one in Covington.

Publix's arrival in Kentucky comes on the heels of its expansion into new markets in Georgia. On Wednesday, the retailer opened a 48,387-square-foot store in the Old Town Marketplace in Columbus. Located in Muscogee County, the new store is located at 8132 Veterans Parkway.
