Modern, customer-centric store pays homage to previous Land Park location

After breaking ground nearly a year ago, Raley’s has opened its new flagship store in the Land Park neighborhood of Sacramento, Calif.
The 55,000-square-foot supermarket, which opened its doors yesterday, is located at the corner of Freeport Boulevard and Wentworth Avenue. Raley’s said its former Land Park store, situated one block south at 4850 Freeport Blvd., will stay open until all inventory is sold, providing the community with temporary access to two stores during the coronavirus pandemic.
Raley's says the new flagship store brings a modernized shopping experience that reflects its vision to promote customer health and wellness.
West Sacramento, Calif.-based Raley’s added that it plans to hold a more traditional grand opening and ribbon-cutting event “at a future date once it is safe to do so.”
Raley’s has served the Land Park community since 1941, and the company said the new flagship store brings a modernized shopping experience that reflects its vision to promote customer health and wellness.
At the same time, the new location includes design elements that pay tribute to Land Park’s history. The iconic Raley’s monument sign (pictured left), initially installed a block away in 1958, has been refurbished and reinstalled at the new store in its historic form. Raley’s also honors Sacramento’s Capital Nursery, which previously occupied the space from 1936 to 2012, by hanging the nursery’s neon sign inside the store.
“For 85 years, Raley’s has been committed to serving our communities, even during uncertain times. Today’s unique situation is no different,” President and CEO Keith Knopf said in a statement. “It is our hope that opening a modern, customer-centric store in Land Park will help the community during this challenging time. Our team members are eager to serve our neighbors.”
The new Land Park Raley’s serves up a wide assortment of prepared foods, with specialized culinary offerings including fresh juice, smoothies, specialty toasts, acai bowls and sushi, along with a meat-carving station, hearth-baked pizza and sandwiches, a gourmet salad bar and a hot food case. Currently, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, self-serve offerings are temporarily closed.
Sacramento-based Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters also has expanded its partnership with Raley’s, offering a selection of coffee and tea drinks at the new store.
Through Raley’s e-commerce platform, eCart, the store can process up to 250 online orders for pickup or delivery daily. The retailer noted that pickup customers have access to covered, pull-through parking spots, and their proximity to eCart storage will lessen the wait time for shoppers when they arrive. All eCart pickup orders from the old Land Park store, as well as pharmacy prescriptions, have been transferred to the new location.
Other highlights of the new Land Park flagship include a mezzanine with seating that overlooks the entire store, as well as window seating; an outdoor seating area; and a tasting room that will offer food, beer and wine sampling.
Overall, Raley’s operates 129 stores in California and Nevada under the banners Raley’s, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods, Food Source and Market 5-ONE-5.
