Remodeled Tony’s Fresh Market to reopen in Illinois
New store follows the grocer’s upgrades to its website and loyalty program
Tony’s Fresh Market is reopening its doors to shoppers on Aug. 28 in Waukegan, Ill., following an overhaul of the store, Tony’s parent company Heritage Grocers Group announced Monday.
The store, located at 1700 N. Lewis Ave., will open at 7 a.m., and the first 100 customers will receive a $50 Tony’s Fresh Market gift card, the company said in a press release. Tony’s will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. and will donate $5,000 to Beach Place, a nonprofit community center, through Tony’s Charitable Foundation.
“This store was updated and redesigned to enhance the shopping experience and meet the needs of our local customers,” said Tony’s Fresh Market’s CEO Frank Ingraffia. “This investment demonstrates our commitment to the Waukegan community and will provide an exceptional and expanded variety of fresh and authentic food options, friendly customer service, and great prices in a refreshed and updated atmosphere.”
The Hispanic specialty grocery store will feature an authentic Mexican cocina with carnitas, tamales, and taqueria classics, the grocer said.
The remodeled grocery store will offer a produce department with seasonal fruits and vegetables from the U.S. and Latin America, a full-service meat department, a full-service deli, a tortilleria, a sushi station, and a bakery.
Heritage operates stores in California, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Kansas, and Illinois. That includes 58 Cardenas Markets, 29 El Rancho Supermercados, 21 Tony’s Fresh Markets, and seven Los Altos Ranch Markets.
Along with the remodeled store, customers will get a new website and loyalty program at Tony’s. Heritage recently upgraded the website, which includes a new interface, recipes, online shopping, and more. The company also revamped its “Tony’s Rewards” program that features weekly offers, digital deals, and promotional discounts.
