A new Schnucks Fresh grocery store is coming to Oak Grove Village, Missouri on Oct. 25, the company announced Wednesday.

The new 23,000-square-foot store, about an hour outside of St. Louis, where Schnucks is headquartered, will be located at 375 South Highway 185.

It will replace a Frick’s Market grocery store in nearby Sullivan, Missouri, which Schnucks purchased in 2022, the grocer said. That store will close permanently on Sunday, Oct. 22. Frick’s staff will be moved to the new Schnucks Fresh, which is expected to employ 32 people.

The new store will focus heavily on fresh produce, meat, seafood, deli and bakery departments. It will also feature a CVS Pharmacy with a drive-through, the regional grocer said.

The grocer will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on opening day.

Schnucks’ newest location will be its second store to operate under the Schnucks Fresh banner. The grocer opened its first Schnucks Fresh in Jasper, Indiana, in 2021.

The two Schnucks Fresh stores are substantially smaller than its traditional grocery stores and are roughly half the size of Schnucks' first Eatwell Market store, which opened in 2020 in Columbia, Missouri. That 42,000-square-foot concept store, which focuses on health food and produce, employs about 80 people.

Schnucks opened a second Eatwell Market location in Chesterfield, Missouri, in March. In total, the company operates 115 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.

Schnucks said the new store will offer customers all the same benefits through its membership program, Schnucks Rewards, as well as all its digital coupons and 2% cash back on purchases.

“We look forward to continuing our mission to nourish people’s lives and to show area customers what we can offer them when building a store from the ground up,” said Schnucks Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck in a statement. “Schnucks Fresh will be a store where customers will find an extensive selection of the same fresh products for which Schnucks is known throughout the Midwest.”

Schnucks said it also is partnering with San Francisco-based tech company Instacart to offer delivery and curbside pickup.
