Schnuck Markets on Wednesday announced plans to open its second Eatwell Market by Schnucks store, this time in Chesterfield, Missouri, about 20 miles west of St. Louis.

Schnucks opened its first Eatwell Market store in Columbia, Missouri, in June 2020 in a former Lucky’s grocery store.

The new Eatwell store, a 30,000-square-foot market, is expected to open this spring, the company said.

“We are excited to introduce Eatwell Market by Schnucks to customers in our hometown area,” said Schnucks Executive Vice President of Supermarkets Ted Schnuck in a statement. “Our company’s mission is to nourish people’s lives, and we will build on that by bringing customers a store where they can discover new, local items while staying focused on health and wellness.”

Eatwell Market will carry thousands of natural and organic items, the company said, with both organic and conventionally grown offerings. The meat department will focus on products raised without added antibiotics or growth hormones. The store will also have bulk bins, freshly ground nut butters and a made-to-order drink counter with smoothies, coffee, tea, beer and wine.

The store will employ about 105 workers, Schnucks said. It will offer delivery and curbside pickup through Instacart.

In August, Schnucks opened its first Schnucks Express location, a small-footprint market connected to the Eatwell store in Columbia. The grocer said customers asked for a wider range of conventional grocery items, in addition to the natural and organic products.

Schnucks made no mention of adding an additional Express store in announcing the new Eatwell location.

“At Eatwell Market, we strive to offer customers the best-tasting food made from the best ingredients,” Schnuck said. “We look forward to soon welcoming shoppers to this location where our goal will be to bring them a ‘beyond the expected’ shopping experience.”

Schnuck Markets was founded in St. Louis in 1939 and operates 114 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
