SpartanNash marks Family Fare conversions in Nebraska, Iowa

SpartanNash said it would celebrate grand reopenings of eight stores in Nebraska and Iowa newly converted to its Family Fare banner this week.

SpartanNash said it would celebrate grand reopenings of eight stores in Nebraska and Iowa newly converted to its Family Fare banner this week.

The remodeled and rebranded stores are former Bag N Save and No Frills stores in Omaha and Bellevue, Neb., and in Council Bluffs, Iowa, acquired as part of Spartan's acquisition of wholesaler Nash Finch. The renovations represent a $14.5 million investment.

Ribbon-cutting ceremonies at each of the stores will take place on Wednesday. In addition, SpartanNash on Tuesday will host a student culinary competition in partnership with Metropolitan Community College’s Institute for the Culinary Arts.

The “Perfect Picnic Challenge” will feature eight students challenged to develop a menu of their favorite summer recipes — including a sandwich, salad and beverage — sticking to a budget of $20 to feed a family of four.

“SpartanNash is excited about the role food plays in our everyday lives, and we know our Family Fare guests feel the same way,” Ted Adornato, SpartanNash EVP of retail operations, said. “Our customers want quality, fresh, local meat and produce as well as budget-friendly savings on the things they buy most often. We’ve listened to those requests, and our eight newly renovated neighborhood markets will bring all that and more for families on the go.”

Since Spartan Stores merged with Nash Finch in November of 2013, the newly formed SpartanNash, headquartered in Byron Center, Mich., has invested more than $30 million into its retail grocery operations in the greater Omaha market.

“As we renovated these eight Family Fare Supermarkets, we focused on what our customers expect in a grocery shopping experience — selection, quality and freshness,” Adornato said. “We remain committed to delivering these to our store guests, along with everyday low prices and outstanding customer service from the nearly 1,000 associates who work at these new and improved locations.”
