Trader Joe's sets opening date for upcoming store in Cypress, California
The grocer will open the new store in its home state on May 5.
Trader Joe’s on Tuesday said it will open its new store in Cypress, California, on May 5.
The store will be located at 5245 Katella Ave., and will open at 9 a.m.
The pace of Trader Joe’s grand openings has been fairly quiet recently. The Monrovia, California-based grocer hasn’t opened a new location since February 17, in Draper, Utah.
Trader Joe’s has stores in 140 California cities and operates more than 500 locations nationwide.
The grocer is preparing for its further expansion, beginning work in February on a $260 million distribution facility in south-central Kentucky that’s slated to open before the end of the year. The facility will include warehouse space, as well as distribution, cold storage and a prepared foods processing area.
Like all Trader Joe’s locations, the new store in Cypress will feature the grocer’s wide selection of private-label products, as well as everyday basics like milk, eggs and fresh produce.
“At Trader Joe’s Cypress, we see ourselves as your neighborhood grocery store,” the retailer said on its website.
The Cypress store is currently the only one listed as soon-to-open on Trader Joe’s website.
Trader Joe’s officials have been at the bargaining table with the grocer’s independent union, Trader Joe’s United, in recent months.
Late last week, employees at a store in Oakland, California, voted to join the union. Trader Joe’s employees in Hadley, Massachusetts, and in Minneapolis have also unionized. Workers in Louisville, Kentucky, voted in favor of joining the union, but that vote has been called into question by Trader Joe’s and remains in limbo.
A union vote last week at the grocer’s Essex Crossing store in New York City did not get the votes needed to pass.
