Vallarta Supermarkets opened a new store this week in Madera, Calif., a San Joaquin Valley city near Fresno. A grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony followed public health guidelines.

The Madera store marks Vallarta's 51st location. The family-owned Latino-focused supermarket chain said it has plans to open another new location next month in Indio, Calif., in Riverside County as part of a long-term goal of doubling its store locations by 2030.

Officials said the new Madera store offers a variety of food choices, including the La Cocina, a Mexican taqueria and kitchen offering authentic, freshly prepared meals as well as fresh sushi made by a sushi chef. To go along with the meals, customers can also select from an expanded liquor and wine selection and a full-service floral department.

The 60,000-square-foot store also will feature a full-service carniceria (meat department)–known for being the “home of the original carne asada”–and seafood department that offers fresh, top-grade meats, including organic and grass-fed options along with poultry and seafood.

The scratch panaderia (bakery) offers sweet and savory baked items, such as pan dulce, bolillos, succulent cakes and pastries. The in-house tortilleria will have freshly made tortillas and masa on offer, while the produce department will feature a variety of fresh options. The cremeria (deli) has a variety of Latin-style cheese, cremas, store-prepared chorizos, salsas, guacamole and pico de gallo. The juice bar serves made-to-order fruit beverages and ice cream.

“We are proud to be opening our 51st store during Hispanic Heritage Month and share the best Latino products and delicious Latino cuisine with the Madera community,” said Andrew Lewis, VP of marketing for Vallarta Supermarkets. “We’ll offer an amazing shopping experience and will work hard to become the supermarket of choice for our new neighbors.”
