Vallarta Supermarkets opened a new store in Carson, California, on Wednesday. It’s the Mexican and Latin American grocer’s 55th store.

The Carson location is Vallarta’s first to feature La Fruteria, a new area in which shoppers can order customized fresh fruit bowls with a choice of produce and toppings such as Tajin, chamoy, lime juice and salt.

The store also sells an extensive variety of fresh produce from local growers as well as from farmers around the world, with a selection that includes Latino favorites such as mamey, chayote, mango tierno and other seasonal offerings.

Other departments include:

Carniceria, selling the grocer’s signature carne asada, as well as a variety of meat cuts

Pescaderia, with an in-house cevicheria offering eight types of house-made ceviches made in small batches throughout the day

Tortilleria, with fresh corn and flour tortillas prepared each day, along with masa so shoppers can make tortillas at home

Cremeria, Vallarta’s take on a traditional deli, selling house-made cremas from Mexico and Central America, as well as Latin American cheeses

Panaderia, with bakery favorites like conchas, puerquitos, mantecadas and bolillos, as well as the grocer’s signature tres leches cakes and flan

La Isla, selling fresh-pressed fruit and vegetable juices and several varities of agua frescas

The store also offers delivery via its Vallarta Go service. Prepared foods from La Cocina are available for delivery through DoorDash.

“We are excited to open our doors and expand into the South Bay with the community of Carson,” Lizette Gomez, the grocer’s director of marketing, said in a statement. “Our goal has always been to provide a welcoming shopping experience where our customers can find fresh, high-quality products to everyday essentials while celebrating the cultural diversity that makes this community unique.”

Vallarta, which employs more than 8,000 workers throughout California, opened its first store more than 35 years ago.
