Whole Foods nearly doubles its store size with relocation in Springfield, Virginia
The new store will offer more amenities, including a full-service meat department, more prepared foods bars and a larger assortment of products.
A new Whole Foods Market is coming to Springfield, Virginia, in October, the grocery chain announced Wednesday.
The 49,499-square-foot supermarket, which will be located at 6426 Springfield Plaza, is a relocation of the existing Springfield Whole Foods at 8402 Old Keene Mill Road, the Amazon-owned grocer said.
The new store, which is set to open at 8 a.m. on Oct. 4, is nearly double the size of the former location and will offer more amenities, including a full-service meat department, more prepared foods bars and a larger assortment of products. The store will feature more than 600 locally sourced products, the company noted.
The new store’s produce section will include conventional and certified options and will feature fruits and vegetables that fall under Whole Foods’ Sourced for Good program, which is a collaboration between the grocer and various farmers, suppliers and international third-party certifiers to help support workers and the environment where the produce is grown. Local offerings include apples from Hess Brother’s Fruit Company, microgreens from Aerofarms and Asian pears from Mountain View Orchards.
The cheese department will offer locally sourced products such as crackers from Firehook Bakery, the Virginia Chutney Company and Picnic Gourmet Spreads, the company said.
The store will also feature:
Hummus from Asmar’s Mediterranean Food, potato chips from Route 11 and barbecue sauces from Sloppy Mama’s.
A full-service seafood counter with smoked fish from Ivy City Smokehouse, crabmeat from Clayton Seafood Company, oysters from Rappahannock Oyster Co., and fresh fish from George’s Seafood.
Grass-fed beef from Grayson Natural Farms.
More than 300 craft beers, many of which are locally sourced from Port City Brewing Company, Potter’s Craft Cider, Aslin Beer Co. And Three Notch’d Brewing Company.
Baklava from Al Bohsali, cookies from Whisked and cakes from Sweet and Natural.
Whole Foods also announced it is donating a refrigerated van to Northern Virginia Food Rescue, courtesy of the grocer's Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program.
The first 300 shoppers on the opening day will receive a free tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon with offers up to $100 off their purchases.
