PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway has launched its seventh annual “Lucerne The Art of Dairy” art contest for middle school and high school students.

To enter, artists ages 13 and older must download a template at www.artofdairy.com featuring a Lucerne cow. Using the cow form as their canvas, they then submit a drawing that expresses what American ingenuity means to them. They must incorporate two Lucerne products in to their drawing. Entries must be postmarked by November 18.

Nine finalists will be chosen from all original submissions received to design and paint a life-size cow sculpture. The finalists will be chosen via a special panel of judges. After the judges have selected the finalists, the voting process will be turned over to the public via an online and mobile voting process. The winning students and his or her art teacher will win $5,000 each, and the winning entrant’s school will win $20,000 for its art department. The school with the most entries will win $1,000 for its art department. Winners will be announced in May.
