Walmart is giving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients a little more help through its Walmart+ program.
The cost of the subscription service has been reduced from $98 a year (or $12.95 monthly) to $49 a year ($6.47 monthly).
Walmart said about a quarter of Walmart+ members receive SNAP, and the move could increase Walmart+ shoppers significantly.
Walmart+ was created in 2020 and is comparable to Amazon’s Prime service. Those paying for Walmart+ receive free shipping, fuel savings, Paramount+ streaming access and unlimited deliveries of orders $35 or more.
According to Morgan Stanley, Walmart+ has about 21.5 million shoppers, or a 17% household penetration. Amazon Prime, however, has about 170 million members.
