BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The judge in Belle Foods’ bankruptcy case has approved the sale of seven stores to six buyers.
The stores were among 13 slated for closure shortly after the retailer filed for Chapter 11 protection.
According to bankruptcy court filings, Food World stores in Mobile, Ala., and in Pensacola, Fla., will go to Mobile-based Autry Greer & Sons, operator of 30 Greer’s Market and Cash Saver stores.
Other stores will be sold to Mary Esther Foods (Food World in Mary Esther, Fla.); Malloy Grocery (Food World., Pensacola, Fla.); Fisher Douglas LLC (Food World, Pensacola, Fla.); CMM Properties (Piggly Wiggly in Tifton, Ga.) and Hometown Market of Morgan County (Food World, Decatur, Ala.). The latter company intends only to buy the equipment and fixtures rom the Decatur location.
The sales would raise more than $1.3 million. The highest price to be paid for a location is $455,000, offered by Autry Greer for the Mobile store.
