Roundy's Supermarkets is partnering with BrightFarms on a hydroponic greenhouse in Chicago that will provide Mariano's with fresh produce throughout the year.
BrightFarms — which will build, finance and operate the greenhouse — is currently searching for a location.
“We have made a strong commitment to using locally grown produce from farmers across the three states in which Roundy’s operates,” said Donald G. Fitzgerald, group VP and chief merchandising officer at Roundy’s, in a press release. “We are pleased to enter into this partnership with BrightFarms as we continue to expand our offerings of 'locally grown.'”
Editor's Note: The article and headline have been updated to clarify that BrightFarms will operate the greenhouse.
