Bottom Dollar Food is preparing three new store openings this month — the last three planned for a while for Delhaize America’s nascent discount chain.
The new openings are set for June 5 in Pittsburgh (Garfield) and Philadelphia (N. 9th & Girard) and June 12 in Chester, Pa. The openings increase the size of the chain to 66 stores.
Although Bottom Dollar is still seen as a growth vehicle for Delhaize, new CEO Frans Muller earlier this year called off additional store openings until the division is more profitable. Bottom Dollar is a “soft discounter” offering brand name and private label groceries and produce in an energetic environment.
