CVS will close one of its Sacramento locations

CVS Pharmacy is on the verge of closing a location in the Arden-Arcade neighborhood in Sacramento, Calif., according to reporting by the Sacramento Business Journal.

CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault confirmed the upcoming closure in a statement to the Business Journal. “Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions. Other factors include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density, and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community,” Thibault said.

Employees from the location, at 3338 Arden Way, will be offered comparable roles with the company, Thibault said. 

CVS Pharmacy is the retail division of Rhode Island-based CVS Health Corp. The pharmacy chain still has many other locations in the Sacramento area.

CVS’ upcoming closure comes as major pharmacy chains are shuttering locations nationwide.

Rite Aid Corp. has closed several local stores since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October — the company has also announced it will ultimately close over 200 stores.
