Winsight Grocery Business on Thursday named veteran journalist Heather Lalley editor in chief.

Lalley has spent the past six years as an editor with Winsight’s award-winning Restaurant Business magazine, covering the impact of the pandemic on independent restaurants and a variety of other industry topics.

"Heather has long been an important voice here at Winsight,” Abbey Lewis, Winsight’s VP of Content Strategy, said. “She is an accomplished and award-winning journalist, a fantastic mentor and a dedicated editor. I have no doubt that this expertise will guide her as the new Editor in Chief of Winsight Grocery Business, and most importantly, as an advocate for the grocery industry itself."

Before joining Winsight, Lalley spent nearly a decade as a reporter at The Spokesman-Review, the daily newspaper in Spokane, Wash.

She has also worked extensively as a freelance writer and editor, and is the author of “The Chicago Homegrown Cookbook.”

Lalley has a journalism degree from Northwestern University as well as a two-year degree in baking and pastry from Chicago’s Washburne Culinary & Hospitality Institute.

A number of new WGB features and multi-media content offerings are in the works, Lalley said.

“I’m honored to lead WGB’s hard-working team,” Lalley said. “Grocery is a fascinating and fast-paced industry. I look forward to meeting many people in the business at upcoming industry events.”

Lalley will continue to be based in Chicago. She can be reached at [email protected] with story ideas, questions or comments.
