This fall The Kroger Co. plans to open its second Kitchen 1883 restaurant, to be located in Anderson Township, a neighborhood in greater Cincinnati.

Operating daily, the stand-alone, full-service restaurant will have a patio in the Shoppes of Anderson Towne Center, which is still under construction, and feature new, local dishes, offering lunch and dinner plus brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

Cincinnati-based Kroger opened its first Kitchen 1883 location last November next to the Kroger Marketplace store in Union, Ky. (See below for a video of the launch of the first Kitchen 1883 restaurant.)

"With Kitchen 1883, our vision is to create a gathering place that offers a casual atmosphere for guests to relax and experience food," Daniel Hammer, vice president of culinary development and new business at Kroger, said in a statement. "Since opening our pilot restaurant five months ago, we've discovered new ideas that will help to shape our future dining concepts and in-store fresh food experiences."

Designed to add a twist to comfort food, the concept serves up a made-from-scratch menu inspired by American and international flavors — with items ranging from chicken-and-waffles to braised beef short ribs — as well as handcrafted cocktails.

"Kitchen 1883 is just one way Kroger is redefining the customer experience through innovative concepts, as we outlined in ‘Restock Kroger,’" Hammer added. "Kroger's Culinary Innovation team will continue innovating and experimenting with food trends, flavors and ingredients to create new experiences and products for our customers and new menu items for our restaurant guests."

The Restock Kroger initiative, unveiled last October, is a series of strategic moves Kroger is making, including expanding its efforts to provide meal- and food-shopping solutions.
