Kroger is handing out free ice cream this summer — 45,000 pints to be exact — in an effort to lure customers and promote its own private-label brand.

The grocer said on Wednesday that on June 20, the official start of summer and the day of the year that has the most sunlight, the chain will give away 50 pints of Kroger Brand ice cream per minute.

More information about the giveaway is available at FreeKrogerIceCream.com, which will offer a single-use digital coupon for download on June 20.

Those who redeem the coupon can choose from a variety of flavors, such as Deluxe Tie Dye Burst, Mint Chocolate Chip, Vivid Vanilla, and Chocolate Chip.

The announcement comes a few weeks after the launch of Walmart’s Bettergoods private-label brand that includes ice cream.

A recent poll by data analytics firm Numerator shows that the Bettergoods ice cream has been a big success for the company, with 78% of shoppers who purchased the ice cream saying they would buy it again.
