Walmart settles weight fruit lawsuit for $45M
Those who purchased entitled to 2% of the total cost of the weighted goods with receipt
Walmart has reached a $45 million settlement involving a weighted grocery class action lawsuit, reports USA Today.
The lawsuit alleges Walmart inflated produce weight, mislabeled the weight of bagged produce, and overcharged for clearance items. Shoppers who bought eligible weighted groceries from Walmart between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024, are eligible for settlement money.
Even though the settlement will not be approved until a final hearing on June 12, shoppers have until June 5 to submit a claim and be included in the settlement.
Those who purchased eligible products and have a receipt will be entitled to receive 2% of the total cost of the weighted goods and bagged citrus purchase. A cap has been set at $500.
Shoppers who do not have a receipt can still submit a claim for a payment between $10 and $25 depending on how much was purchased.
