ZAANDAM, Netherlands — Ahold here said Thursday that it has named Unilever veteran Abbe Luersman chief human resources officer, effective Nov. 1.

The hire completes Ahold’s revamped executive committee.

Ahold Chief Human Resources Officer Abbe Luersman

Luersman is a U.S. national who started her career at Whirpool Corp. in 1991, before joining global CPG firm Unilever in 2007. In her most recent role, she was responsible for human resources for Unilever Europe.

"We are delighted to have such an international, business-minded HR expert joining our company," said Dick Boer, Ahold chief executive officer. "We can only reshape retail if we have the right talent in our company to execute this great ambition. Abbe's background in HR programs supporting business transformation in both the United States and Europe is not only impressive, but also highly valuable for Ahold.”

The Ahold executive committee, or ExCo, will become effective Sept. 1. In addition to Luersman and Boer, it includes Chief Financial Officer Jeff Carr; Chief Operating Officer Ahold USA James McCann; Chief Operating Officer Ahold Europe Sander van der Laan; Chief Corporate Governance Counsel Lodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh; and Chief Commercial Officer Hanneke Faber.
