CHARLOTTE, N.C. — R. Stewart Dickson, who co-founded Ruddick Corp. with his brother 40 years ago, announced his retirement from the board of directors at the company’s annual meeting here last week. Edwin Borden Jr., who served on the board since 1981, also announced his retirement, while William C. Warden Jr., a former executive at the Lowe’s home-improvement chain, was newly elected to the board, the company said. Dickson served as chairman of the board for Ruddick, which owns the Harris Teeter supermarket banner, for 26 years. He retired as an executive officer of the company in 2002 but continued to serve on the board.
