Customers received a text message from CVS Pharmacy, a subsidiary of CVS Health, notifying them about a location closing in Harlingen, Texas. The text message informed customers where they could get prescriptions filled once that location closes on Aug. 15, according to local news outlet ValleyCentral.
This is not the first location to close recently. There have been CVS closings in Nebraska, Iowa, Florida, Missouri, New York, and Virginia, according to The U.S. Sun. This is in addition to other locations that are set to close in the following months:
- Brookfield, Ill., (west of Chicago) is set to close on July 20
- Philadelphia, N.J., set to close in August
The company announced in November 2021 that it would be closing 900 locations by 2024 due to a decline in sales and a rise in online shopping.
CVS is just one of the many retailers that have been shutting down. Competitor Walgreens closed a number of stores in May in New York and Maryland.
