Dollar Tree employees affected by third-party data breach impacting 2M
Social security numbers, other info was compromised
Dollar Tree employee information has been compromised by a cyberattack, which ultimately affected the data of close to 2 million people, according to a data breach notification shared with the Maine Attorney General.
Zeroed-In Technologies recently sent out a letter to impacted customers informing them of the data breach, which occurred on Aug. 8. Dollar Tree’s service provider, Zeroed-In Technologies, said it immediately took steps to secure the systems and has launched an investigation into the nature and scope of the activity.
Information stolen during the attack includes names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers of Dollar Tree employees.
While Zeroed-In was able to determine that certain systems were accessed, it was not able to confirm all of the specific files that were accessed or taken. Therefore, the company conducted a review of the contents of the systems to determine what information was present at the time of the incident and to whom the information related to.
In the letter, Zeroed-In said it was reviewing its existing policies and procedures and had implemented additional safeguards to prevent a similar event from happening in the future.
Zeroed-In has also offered impacted clients access to a free credit monitoring service that will provide alerts for 12 months from the date of enrollment when changes happen to credit files. The company is also providing proactive fraud assistance and remediation services.
