Approximately 200 employees at Lidl US headquarters in Arlington, VA have been laid off, according to reporting from Fox 5 Washington DC.
“While we remain committed to the long-term success of Lidl US and look forward to continuing our expansion along the East Coast, we are continually evaluating our operations to ensure we are supporting our stores effectively,” said Lidl Senior Manager of Communications and Public Relations Chandler Spivey.
“As part of this process, we have made the difficult decision at this time to eliminate approximately 200 roles across the company, which took place this week. This will mainly impact our headquarters team, with no impacted employees at the store level,” Spivey added.
Spivey said all affected employees have been given the opportunity to receive severance pay, as well as support with career transition services, company funding of COBRA healthcare continuation coverage and the payout of accrued but unused vacation.
The German-owned grocery store chain has been growing quickly in the D.C. area and throughout the East Coast, according to Fox 5. Lidl representative Chandler Spivey told FOX 5 that no store employees are impacted by the layoffs.
“While we remain committed to the long-term success of Lidl US and look forward to continuing our expansion along the East Coast, we are continually evaluating our operations to ensure we are supporting our stores effectively,” said Spivey in a statement to Fox 5. “We are grateful for the contributions of our team members, both those impacted and those remaining.”
