WinCo Foods, Boise, Idaho, is scheduled to open its first two Texas stores on Thursday, with at least three more Texas locations due over the next 13 months, the company said.

The first two stores will be in Fort Worth and McKinney, Texas, on opposite sides of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, with each covering approximately 95,000 square feet, said Mike Read, the company’s spokesman.
Three additional stores are likely to open in Texas during the company’s fiscal year, which begins April 1, Read said — in Duncanville, North Richland Hills and Lewisville. All are likely to be in the range of 85,000 square feet to 89,000 square feet, based on the needs of the specific markets, he noted.
The company also has additional sites under development, Read added.
As in the chain’s most recent stores, the Texas stores will feature WinCo’s new interior design, featuring two rather than one front-to-back aisles that will trisect, rather than bisect, the center of the store, Read explained, “to give customers more ability to get around more easily.”
The stores will also feature less high racking in one section, which will give them a more open look, he added.
The Texas stores will also feature WinCo’s new décor package, which includes red, black and gray colors replacing the older orange and teal “to give them a nicer, cleaner feel,” Read noted.
WinCo is promoting its entry into Texas with TV and radio ads, plus direct mail and coupon ads within the zip-code areas around each store, he said.
With next week’s openings, WinCo will operate 93 units: 33 in California, 19 in Washington, 16 in Oregon, 10 in Idaho, five in Utah, four each in Nevada and Arizona and the two in Texas.
