Diversified Business Communications and Alimentaria Exhibitions join forces to launch a new seafood trade exhibition in Barcelona 2018-01-01 (2)

Diversified Business Communications and Alimentaria Exhibitions announced the launch of Seafood Barcelona which will take place in the Autumn of 2012.  The event is the newest addition to Diversified's global portfolio of seafood events which include the European Seafood Exposition( Brussels), the Asian Seafood Exposition(Hong Kong) and the International Boston Seafood Show.  Alimentaria Exhibitions is the organizer of the global Alimentaria events which take place in Barcelona, Lisbon and Mexico City. 

Seafood Barcelona will be held at Fira de Barcelona and will focus on bringing buyers and sellers together focusing on Spain and Southern Europe.  "Barcelona is the perfect location to hold a fair that brings all aspects of the seafood and seafood processing industry" said J. Antonio Valls, deputy managing director of Alimentaria Exhibitions.   

The first event in 2012 will host 300 companies from seafood and seafood processing/ technology companies and will attract high-level seafood buyers.  According to Mary Larkin, Group Vice President of Diversified's seafood events and publications, "Seafood Barcelona provides a new opportunity for seafood buyers and sellers to target the important Spanish and Southern European marketplace."

Spain is a leading seafood producing and consuming nation.  Data provided from the Ministry of the Environment and Rural Marine Affairs shows that seafood is consumed in 70% of Spanish households with consumption of 2.2 kg per capita per month.  Spain is the world's third largest manufacturer of canned seafood generating €2.2 bn.  Spain exported 992,489 tonnes of seafood in 2010, being the first exporting country from the EU and representing the 17% of the whole Community, according to Anfaco-Cecopesca, the Spanish fish canning association.  For its Secretary-General, Juan Manuel Vieites, the holding of a fair of Seafood's magnitude in Spain is "very positive for businesses, given our country's importance in fishery and fish farming produce."
