Consumer demand for fresh and locally grown foods is increasing and so is the need for better storage and preservation, according to Tom Mirabile, consumer forecaster for the International Housewares Association.
“[Consumers] are getting back to basics, and community and farmers’ markets are a part of that,” said Mirabile at the International Home + Housewares Show at Chicago’s McCormick Place last week. “They want new ways of storing and preserving food.”
A popular trend on the show floor involved appliances and storage containers that assist consumers in getting the most out of their food dollars.
