Through its curbside pickup service, West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee has risen to the challenge of making grocery shopping not only quicker but also more convenient and easier for its shoppers.
“When the pandemic first began, use of Aisles Online, our e-commerce platform, increased 300%, predominantly with customers using curbside pickup instead of delivery,” Dawn Buzynski, director of strategic communications for Hy-Vee, told WGB. “While more customers are coming back into the store, we have noticed that many are still enjoying the convenience and ease of using our e-commerce and mobile platforms and continue to order their groceries online. For those customers, curbside pickup continues to be the choice over delivery options.”
In April 2020, Hy-Vee launched its Mealtime To Go service which it said remains a very popular service amongst its shoppers. Through Hy-Vee’s Mealtime To Go offerings, customers can order hot, prepared foods as well as take-and-bake meals for free pickup in as little as 20 minutes or for a scheduled pickup time.
“With busy families choosing the convenience of picking up fresh meals curbside on their way home from work or school, we have expanded our meal offerings and also extended the service to our convenience stores in select markets as well,” Buzynski said.
Given the popularity of its Aisles Online e-commerce program, Hy-Vee added permanent fixtures to its locations for quick grocery pickup, including Aisles Online kiosks where customers who ordered groceries online can drive up and conveniently have their groceries loaded into their vehicles. These buildings are situated in an area of the store property that gives customers an easy way to drive in to pick up their groceries and avoid the congestion in front of the stores especially during busier times.
