Central Market Revamps Austin Store

AUSTIN, Texas — Couscous from Israel, tartlets from France and risotto from Italy are just some of the exclusives debuting at  H-E-B’s renovated Central Market Westgate store.

“We’ve been lifting walls and tucking exclusive products into brand new areas,” posted efoodie editor “Megan E.” on Central Market’s “More, Please!” blog. “The biggest place that we upped the ante is in the center of the store.”

Indeed, Central Market has added more than 500 bulk bins and barrels of grains, teas, herbs, oils, vinegars and candies to a department boasting:                          

• The largest assortment of teas and herbs in Texas with more than 220 bulk teas and 34 new herbs.

• Crescendo brand bulk oils and vinegars including 32 new oils and 32 new vinegars made with real fruit.

• The largest assortment of specialty chocolate bars in Texas.

Eleven origin-specific organic coffees also join the mix. “We began sourcing select green coffees from Brazil and Colombia and now are working with farmers and importers to create an assortment of great coffees from around the world,” according to the post.

Shoppers can explore the store this Thursday during self-guided sampling tours. Admission is $10 and includes an etched wine glass.
