GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General has added Arkansas to the list of states were it sells beer.

Permits for 50 of the discount chain’s 265 stores in the state were obtained from the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division last week, but requests for 14 were denied after protests from local residents and officials. Dollar General will decide in the next two weeks whether it will appeal the decision, spokeswoman Tawn Earnest told SN.

Dollar General has tested beer and wine sales in about a dozen states since 2008, but this is the first time it's attempted to sell an alcoholic beverage in Arkansas.

“We continue to evaluate locations where it makes sense to sell beer,” Earnest said.
