Giant Food to offer exclusive Bokksu Japanese snack box
The surprise special mystery box will be available starting June 1 in all Giant Food stores
Giant Food is launching a Japanese snack box from Bokksu, a Japanese snacks and gifts company. The “mystery” Japan Crate snack box is exclusive to Giant and will be available starting June 1 in all 164 Giant Food stores throughout Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C.
“We are excited to partner with Bokksu to bring this special mystery Japan Crate to our customers,” said Matt Novosel, director of DSD & Specialty at Giant Food. “This special mystery box provides our customers with the opportunity to experience authentic Japanese snacks and drinks from their local grocery store.”
In 2023, Bokksu acquired Japan Crate, a pop culture-inspired Japanese candy, snacks, and drinks start-up. According to Bokksu, the acquisition has driven the company’s expansion into retail, with national retail partners with a total of 5,000-plus locations—including outlets like World Market, Hot Topic, and others.
Founded in 2015, New York and Tokyo-based Bokksu has a presence in over 100 countries via its snack subscription service, premium home goods market, and online Asian grocery store.
Based in Landover, Md., Giant Food operates 165 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, with approximately 20,000 associates. Included within those 165 stores are 153 full-service pharmacies, more than 80 full-service PNC Banks, and 29 Starbucks locations. Giant Food’s parent company is Ahold Delhaize USA.
