Consumer interest in health and wellness is propelling the introduction of many of the new oil and vinegar products coming to the market. These include a variety of MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oils, which are touted as being “healthy” fats. They are found in coconut oil, palm oil and dairy products, and are coming to market in a variety of forms and blends, including flavored sprays. Avocado oil, which is high in monounsaturated fats and low in saturated fats, has also seen increased demand as a healthy alternative to other cooking oils. One recent report from Research and Markets projected the global avocado oil market would expand at a compound annual growth rate of 8% between 2018 and 2024. Olive oils also remain popular for their taste and health benefits, despite a challenging season for olive oil production in some parts of the world. Among vinegars, organic, raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegars have been among the leading varieties, for use in salad dressings and other recipes.

Fish & olive combo

J.R. Carlson Laboratories, the Arlington Heights, Ill.-based maker of omega-3 nutritional supplements, has teamed with Terra Creta extra virgin olive oil to create Carlson Olive Your Heart, a blend of olive oil and fish oil. The product contains omega-3s, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) from deep, cold-water fish. It is available in natural, lemon, basil or garlic flavors. The product naturally provides omega-9 oleic acid, which the company said supports inflammation balance and promotes immune and cardiovascular system health.

The debut included six savory flavors (Garlic, Chipotle, Citrus Pepper, Chili-Lime Ginger, Lemon Dill and Italian Herb) and three sweet (Spiced Chai, Simply Cinnamon and Warm Gingerbread). The line, like all of Chosen Foods’ products, contains no GMOs and no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

O Olive Oil & Vinegar has introduced O Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, which the company describes as a “modern makeover of a wholesome classic.” The product can be mixed with sparkling water as a tonic or can be used in salad dressing or spritzed on fresh vegetables. It contains no added sugars or preservatives, and is gluten-free, raw and unfiltered.

Sprayable truffle oil

Fourth & Heart introduced Sprayable Truffle Hybrid MCT Ghee Oil that is high in omega-6 and moega-9 fatty acids and made with ghee, fractionated coconut oil, avocado oil, sunflower lecithin and truffle oil. It contains all the vitamins naturally found in ghee, including vitamins A, D, E and K, as well as butyric acid, which the company described as a gut-healthy fat.

Multinational blends

California Olive Ranch’s Destination Series of olive oils blend high-quality extra virgin olive oils from California with those produced by hand-selected farms in Argentina, Chile and Portugal. The new blends reflect the company’s partnerships with international growers to help offset weak olive seasons in California, the company said.
